"Moving Stones" ?
As a small boy, my teacher taught mi the basic fundamentals of Physics:
‘Work is said to be done when the stone is moved.’
All around mi, I see people working… moving their stones, everyday. Be it the newspaper
boy delivering each day without fail, the kiranewala, selling grocery day after
day, the security guards, each night guarding our gates, the politicians making
the law, the criminals breaking those laws, the police enforcing them and the courts
dispensing justice. Everybody is working. Everybody is moving their stones.
However, a point of contention with this definition is that it does not imply that
simply moving the stone results in productive or beneficial work.
Hence at Moving Stones we say:
Work is done when the stone is moved, in the right direction.
"The Right Direction" ?
I observe a glaring divide between the urban and rural India today, making it somewhat
difficult to believe that they are both parts of the same nation.
In this world of comparative and absolute advantage, it has now been established
that India commands an absolute advantage in the field of software development.
Yet, India produces insignificant numbers of software products and even fewer are
the number of Indian organizations using these products.
We have gained competence in making solutions for others, why aren’t we using this
advantage to produce something that would make a difference in India for us Indians?
By Indians, I do not mean just the 30% urban citizens, but also the remaining 70%
in the rural areas. Today, urban growth is fueling rural growth due to changes in
the consumption patterns in the cities. Imagine developing solutions for companies
that act as bridges between the two divides; Solutions aimed at rural initiatives
like wine making, organic farming, horticulture etc, all of which need an international
audience. Imagine making available these solutions in a degree competitive to the
availability of mobile phones in the far flung areas.
Moving Stones has started with a single thought:
All that humankind does now, needs Information Technology.
We have reached that point in time, when all fields where Information Technology
seems to be superfluous right now would be impossible without the involvement of
the same in a not so far off future. As rightly foreseen and said by our former
president, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam:
“We are in the age of Knowledge Management”.
Businesses in India continue to operate in the same manner as they did since the
time of their inception. This is something widely seen but rarely acknowledged and
improved upon.
I believe very strongly, that the time is now when we move on from inventories to
IT enabled Service Supply Chains, thus ensuring greater transparency in the processes
to ensure that the benefits reach those who create them and revolutionize the way
businesses are carried out in order to maximize the spread of growth.
Moving Stones Technologies is a venture undertaken by individuals who believe that
information technology is to form the backbone of all our products and services,
not because it is the trend, but because it has shown its quintessence in facilitating
all forms of businesses.
It is my firm belief that Moving Stones should not stick to information technology
alone, but also diversify into other fields of endeavor such as e-education, alternative
medicines, corporate farming, tourism (all forms from religious to adventure), rural
logistics, entertainment, handicrafts, etc. With the help of my knowledge in IT,
I would like to get into other sectors so that I can maximize the spread of success
in my country.
The objective is very difficult, impossible they tell mi, but I will be damned if
I don’t try.
"Who am I" ?
